Almost all of us listen to music in daily life, regard it as a partner. Sometimes we sing, dance or play the instrument as a way to express our feelings to life. And as for me, music is a life style, just as 阿城 said.
I get up early in the morning, enjoying the mild sunlit jungle, listening to the birds singing——it’s an unknown language, but maybe an accessible music sincerely from heart. Then I will listen to the “real music” with a bright, pure theme, like “the First Concerto in E Minor” by Chopin, “the Rhapsody on a Theme of
Paganini” by Rachmaninoff, wishing myself a pleasant day. Then begin my work of a new day in a good mood. When finishing one day’s work in the evening, I sit down for some music as well. This time I listen to some pieces with more “waves”, like “the 9th Symphony” by Beethoven, “the Violin Concerto in D Major” by Tchaikovsky, and look back on this day with the music, enjoy its happiness and sadness just like enjoy the music. Then I realize life died in the music when it passed, no need for over exciting or over grieving, just be lost in tasting its taste, whether it is sweet or bitter. Then I get asleep peacefully.
Music helps me understand the world. When standing on the beach in front of the sea, I feel I am listening to another kind of music, with special rhythm and tune, which purely comes from nature. Specially, when it is on a summer night, the moonlight shines mildly on the sea; a wave after another runs near, and then disappears on the beach. Special calmness emerges from the roaring sea. The scenery shows its mysterious colors just like the strains of “the Moonlight” by Debussy.
When listening to music, feeling its tune changing, from a major key to a minor key, I feel that color of life is changing just like the tune, from the bright colors to gray ones. But no matter what color it is, it’s beautiful as the same. I love the variety of life, just as loving the gentleness of Mozart, the slight grief of Tchaikovsky, as well as the great grief of Beethoven. I feel the greatest warm in Tchaikovsky’s pieces, which are from cold Russia. Therefore I realize the greatest happiness in life emerges from the greatest sadness, and all kinds of sensations mix together as the changing tunes in an opera, as different instruments in symphony orchestra. And no other than combination makes perfect!
Music is a way of learning. I often read comments on music in spare time, some of them are about the history of the music and composers, showing how the works be composed and what’s the background. For example, the 7th symphony “Leningrad" by Shostakovich was composed during World War Ⅱ, when Russia was invaded by Germany. I learned this part of history so that I could understand the symphony; and through the music, I comprehend the misery of World War Ⅱ more deeply than ever. Because of the various motivations of composing music, we can learn a lot, like culture, history, philosophy and so on. Music is an endless book.
Sometimes my friends and I go out together to play the piano, enjoy our own music, and I believe we are the “second producers” of those pieces. We combine our feelings with the works, hoping to express not only the meanings written by composers, but also the new meanings from us. Therefore, music is a mirror for us. We listen to our own expressions and realize our potential feelings, personalities, emotions through it. The days of playing the piano is always very happy. We learn to play, and play to learn! It’s the most pure-hearted communion in the world, the communion to the ancient composers, and the communion between us.
Music is a life style, an abundant style. I love the life, just as I love music!
