D'ascendance italienne par son père et savoyarde par sa mère, André-François Marescotti est né au 31, rue Saint-Joseph à Carouge. Interrompant des études, il entre en 1920 au Conservatoire de musique de Genève comme élève des classes de piano, d'orgue, d'harmonie, contrepoint, composition, puis poursuit sa formation à Paris auprès de Roger Ducasse. Son activité professionnelle comprend les fonctions d'organiste (1921 à Compesières), de maître de chapelle (dès 1924 au Sacré-Cœur, dès 1940 à Saint-Joseph) et de professeur au Conservatoire de musique de Genève, dès 1931 (piano, pédagogie, composition et orchestration). La ville des bords de l'Arve à laquelle il est rès attaché lui inspirera ses fameux quatre Concertos Carougeois (1941, 1958, 1966 et 1986). A Carouge, André-François Marescotti a créé une Fondation qui porte son nom pour permettre à de jeunes musiciens de poursuivre leurs études. Il est lauréat du Mérite carougeois en 1973. |

Life:
Born on April 30, 1902 in Carouge (close to Geneva), of Italian father and Savoyard mother, the Andre-François type-setter Marescotti achieves studies of technical draughtsman. In 1920, it releases this profession and stops its studies to be devoted to the music. It works initially with the academy of Music, then with the Academy of Geneva, where it studies lorgue, the piano, lharmonie, counterpoint and the composition. In 1921, it is named organist with Compesières . Thereafter, it improves in Paris at Roger Ducasse, thanks to which it acquires the perfection and the solidity of composition. In 1930, it creates First continuation in Ground , which shows that it is in perfect possession of its average techniques and expressive. The influence which it received dEmmanuel Chabrier or of Maurice Ravel attaches it entirely to the French esthetics of its time. After the second world war, it very freely adopts the dodecaphonic writing while renonçant from the start to the strict and serial application, but while being adjusted with the semantic and expressive contents of its speech. In addition to its work of composition, Andre-François Marescotti occupy a fundamental place in the life of the European music and genevoise. Head of chSur to the church of Crowned-CSur of Geneva (since 1924), Choirmaster to theSaint-Joseph church (since 1940) and manager of music to the Comedy of Geneva, it achieves, especially since 1931, a remarkable career of pedagogue by teaching the piano, pedagogy, lorchestration and the composition with the Academy of Geneva. Among his pupils, one finds Jean Balissat . In addition, it plays a role of foreground within association of the Swiss Musicians and in the Committee of the SUISA, of which it was one of the founders. Requiring towards itself and without concession, Andre-François Marescotti acquires a reputation and an authority which made known it well beyond the Swiss borders. It is honoured by the price with composition with association with the Swiss Musicians for the unit with its Suvre. Andre-François Marescotti is prize winner of the Carougeois Merit in 1973; remainder, it does not dedicate less than four concertos to the town of Carouge. Deceased in 1995, it represents by its Suvre one of the most significant values of the musical inheritance of the French-speaking Switzerland to the XX E century and deserves to arouse all the interest of the executants and the musicologists.
