Jeffrey Swann has established himself as a pianist of international acclaim. He won first prize in the Dino Ciani Competition sponsored by La Scala in Milan, a gold medal at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, and top honors in the Warsaw Chopin, Van Cliburn, Vianna da Motta and Montreal Competitions. Since these recognitions, Mr. Swann has become a renowned recitalist, soloist, and recording artist.

Jeffrey Swann has toured the United States as a recitalist, performing in New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C. to critical accolades. The Washington Post said, "When a pianist begins with a glowing performance of a Schubert sonata, he makes himself irresistible. That is exactly what Jeffrey Swann did--and was--last night." Included on his roster of appearances as soloist are the orchestras of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Indianapolis, Dallas, St. Louis, Honolulu, Portland, Houston, New Orleans and Baltimore. The Cincinnati Post said of Mr. Swann: "His Chopin--built on lines that bent and stretched but never sagged--was exquisite; his Liszt was a triumph of virtuosity."

In the European countries, Mr. Swann has achieved the status of a major artist. His tours in Europe have included performances in Amsterdam, Basel, Geneva, Cologne, Rotterdam, Brussels, Milan, Florence, Zurich, Munich, Venice and Rome. He made his Oslo debut on the prestigious "Masters of the Piano" series and has appeared twice on the "Grands Interpretes/Quatre Etoiles" series in Paris. Mr. Swann has also toured Poland extensively, appearing with the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Polish Radio Orchestra and other East European orchestras. He has performed as soloist with the Rotterdam and Hague Philharmonics; the Belgian national and Radio Orchestras; the symphonies of Berlin, Basel, Goteborg, Baden-Baden, Santa Cecilia, RAI Torino and Rome, and La Scala; and the London Philharmonia.

A native of Arizona, Jeffrey Swann began piano studies at the age of four and studied for seven years with Alexander Uninsky at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School under Beveridge Webster, and completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree under Adele Marcus, graduating with highest honors. During this time, he won the Young Concert Artists Auditions and opened the 1975-76 YCA Series with his New York debut.

Mr. Swann is also a gifted composer, having studied composition with Darius Milhaud at the Aspen Music Festival and having won first prize in the Composers' Competition there at the age of fifteen. His Symphony No. 1 was performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra when he was fourteen. Remaining actively involved with contemporary compositions, he premiered Charles Wuorinen's Second Piano Sonata at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and in New York for the New York Composers Group.

Mr. Swann can be heard on Ars Polona, Deutsche-Grammophon, RCA-Italy, Replica and Fonit-Cetra recordings. His Liszt-Rosenthal recording on the Fonit-Cetra label was chosen one of the Best of the Year by Fanfare magazine, and his compact disc recording of the four Mephisto Waltzes of Franz Liszt won the Liszt Record Grand Prix 1988 from the Liszt Society in Budapest.
